Presentation Reflection
Quintilian’s Rhetorical Theory
My power point presentation on Quintilian’s rhetorical theory was short and to the point. The color scheme I chose for my slides was a khaki/cream/beige color. I chose this because I did not want a “loud” color that would distract from the actual content on the slide or to distract from the “conversation” we were all having on the chat. I kept it simple with just the topic I was presenting on and my name on the bottom corner. On the second slide I decided to just put a picture of Quintilian and titled the slide “good man speaking well” which is what essentially Quintilian’s rhetorical theory is all about. I decided to include a question that would engage my classmates in conversation and debate so as to not bore them with just me “talking.” On the third slide I answered the previous question which also sparked a debate amongst my classmates because some did not agree with Quintilian’s views. I chose to put in a picture that represents justice with a balance scale and judge’s gavel, but still following my color scheme. I explained Quintilian’s reasoning by giving “real-world” examples so as to make a connection for them. The fourth slide just consisted of bullet points with a summary of Quintilian’s “requirements” of a rhetorician. I think this slide just wrapped everything up for my classmates and gave them an overall summary of what Quintilian’s rhetorical theory is all about. I decided to word all the text on my slides as simply as possible in order to keep everyone on the same page since this was such a short presentation. I did not want to risk having someone not understand my wording of a concept and have to spend time explaining that instead of actually discussing the topic at hand. I also chose to italicize and underline the words that I thought were important in order to stress their significance.
